Benson is situated along several trade routes: Interstate 10, State Route 80, State Route 90 and the main line of the Union Pacific Railroad.
Arizona Electric Power Cooperative, Inc., Apache Nitrogen Products, Benson School District and the Benson Hospital are the area's major employers. In addition to retail chain stores, there are several unique specialty shops found on the main 4th Street that offers a variety of goods. Many residents, however, commute to Tucson and Sierra Vista for employment and shopping.
The City supports a large retired population and is a winter refuge for visitors from colder climates. Its nearby historic and scenic sites are increasingly popular with tourists.
Benson Municipal Airport is now a full-service, general aviation airport. Southwestern Aviation, our first fixed base operator provides; AVGAS and Jet AFuel, Car Rental, Flight Training, Aircraft Rental and aircraft sales.
The Airport is located 3 miles northwest of the the City. To visit the airport, drive north on Ocotillo for 1 mile past the interstate, then turn left on Aviation Drive for 3.2 miles.
Benson Municipal Airport is now the home of an aerial photography company, Keystone Aerial Surveys, Inc.
Benson has just completed an asset inventory; a constantly changing work in progress.
The San Pedro & Southwestern Rail Road Trans-load Spur is located southeast of 4th street just off SR 80. There is no longer any passenger service on this line. For more information call Scott Parkenson at 520 586-2266.
